Alive & Free is a newspaper column produced by Hazelden that informs the general public about alcohol and drug abuse and the prevention and treatment of addiction and related addictive disorders. It offers readers the information and guidance needed to respond to substance abuse problems and to prevent such problems.

The column, which began January 1998, is distributed once every two weeks, or 26 times a year, and is free of charge. The column is intended as a community service and is published in more than 300 publications (daily and weekly newspapers, newsletters, and addiction and recovery tabloids) nationwide.

Newspapers, newsletters, Web sites, and other news sources are invited to publish Alive & Free columns (free of charge). We simply ask that Hazelden be cited as the source. You will be added to our email list to receive the latest columns (two new columns every four weeks), and the Alive & Free column head will be sent to you.
