Teen Intervene is designed to provide education, support and guidance for teens who have experienced mild to moderate chemical use - and their parents. Using Hazelden's philosophy of dignity and respect, counselors serve as teachers and coaches to help young people make healthier choices.
Teen Intervene also offers parents and guardians the opportunity to learn healthy communication skills and the importance of establishing family rules surrounding chemical use.
At present, this program is only offered at Hazelden's Minnesota locations.
Teen Intervene offers:
- Individual Focus- Each young person has his or her own reasons for using alcohol or other drugs and individual teens differ greatly in terms of their willingness to change. By using individual goals and personalized feedback, Teen Intervene is directly focused on each young person's specific needs.
- Support for Families- Parents or guardians also learn about chemical use and how to communicate more effectively with their teen. They are invited to join the third session to address issues as a family.
- A Safe Environment - Hazelden programs are not confrontational, offering a safe and supportive environment for education and self-exploration.
The admissions process for Teen Intervene:
- Referral- Anyone who is concerned about a teen's chemical use can refer him or her to Teen Intervene. This could be a parent, school professional, law enforcement official or a concerned person. To begin the process or to obtain more information, call 800-257-7810.
- Assessment- Teen Intervene is geared to help teens who have experienced mild to moderate chemical use. A chemical use assessment must be completed to rule out a diagnosis of addiction. The assessment may be completed at Hazelden or another program of your choice.
- Program Sessions- The program consists of three 90-minute sessions with a counselor. The first two sessions occur one-on-one between the teen and the counselor. Parents are invited to join the third session to address issues as a family.
