Jan Copeland, Ph. D
Jan Copeland, PhD, was the founding director of the National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre (NCPIC) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia and a professor of addiction studies. She is a registered psychologist and has worked in the addictions field for more than twenty-five years, specializing in the development and testing of tools and brief interventions for the management of cannabis use disorder among adults and adolescents.
She has more than 325 publications, including a 2015 book on cannabis myths and how to assist others, incorporating a self-help guide to quit. She has advised national and international governments on cannabis-related prevention and treatment. She is an associate editor of Drug and Alcohol Dependence among other journals and is a member of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence, the Australian Psychological Society, and the International Cannabinoid Research Society. Dr. Copeland has received a number of awards for her contribution to drug-related treatment, public health, and community education.
