Having open and honest conversations about suicide with young people destigmatizes the topic while educating both those who are in supportive positions and those who are at risk. Join our prevention specialist as they share the importance of suicide prevention for young people in your schools and community. Through this efficient training, your team will feel equipped to implement the curriculum with fidelity and compassion.
Attendees will earn 8 clock hours toward continuing education credits.*
6.5 hours, including breaks and lunch.
Learning Objectives- Educate faculty, staff, students, parents/caregivers and community members to understand their roles in the prevention process.
- Recognize warning signs and learn skills to have a conversation about their risk and have the tools to take the necessary next steps.
- Explore grade-specific lesson plans to teach students coping and resiliency skills to support their social-emotional learning skills.
Lesley Kopsick
Prevention Specialist at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation
Kopsick holds a masters and PhD in curriculum and instruction. She is a certified teacher in Florida where she has taught middle school for 12 years. Kopsick also has worked at the university level as a teacher, internship supervisor and curriculum evaluator. Her passion for education has also led her to a volunteer opportunity as an article submission evaluator for The Journal of Educational Research.
